Reading Summary

Moving Pictures.
-Videos started to become an artistic medium since the late 1960s although the programs on television were available to public in the 40s and 50s in Europe and US.
-Video is different from film and television in a way that it "directly translates the audio-visual material into analogue or digital code" meaning recording and storage happen at the same time.
Also videos can be easily manipulated and changed unlike film.
- Development in the 60s: Developed the ideas from Pollock's performative painting, John Cage, etc. performance in art. Nam June Paik's music + tv, record players. mechanical sound objects: Technical interventions. At the end of 60s, artists wanted to reach a mass audience of consumers, connect art and life on a media level.

Project proposal

This stop motion project will consist of combination of sculpting, photo sculpting, things becoming alive, flying around, and dying back to normal.
The video will start with me carving foam into a shape of a head. It will just be a pure process of carving and sculpting. As soon as it finishes, the photo of my face melts down my face and crawls on the ground to reach the head sculpture.
The sculpture is done and I leave the studio. The head moves around with different facial expressions and seems to be 'alive', and accidentally falls. The transition goes from up in the studio to the ground to the darkness to outside. As soon as it hits the ground, the head becomes a real person. The 'real' person is excited and walks around, then runs around, jumps around, and eventually starts to fly around everywhere like a crazyman-butterfly whatever creature. He eventually hits somewhere, falls again, falls into the darkness and drops back in the studio, as a sculpture.
